Tanah Lot Temple Ceremony - First Day PDF Print E-mail

Active ImageToday is ceremony for Tanah Lot Temple. Temple ceremony at Tanah Lot Temple executed each every six-month precisely on Buda Wage, Wara Langkir, four days after Kuningan Day, which is fall on September 3-6, 2008. All pemedek or prayer have started do pray start in the morning until nighttime and will take place or nyejer during three days. Thousands of Hindu people which do pray to Tanah Lot Temple come from various area in Sub-Province of Tabanan specially and Bali generally. Pujawali at Tanah Lot Temple start at 8 AM until 11 PM led by Mangku Subagi from Beraban village. But all pemedek have started pray at 4 AM local time early morning. Bustle start seen at 10 AM, and the top will happen at 1 PM until nighttime. Amount of pemedek till now have reached 750 people or about reaching the percentage of 50%.

 

Active ImageThe situation at Tanah Lot Temple usually  fulfilled by pemedek  so that they must queuing up first into jeroan (=middle place of the tempel) Tanah Lot Temple to do pray. Before pemedek do pray at jeroan Tanah Lot Temple, pemedek usually do pray at Beji Kaler that exist at Tanah Lot Temple. Beji Kaler is source of holy water that usually used if there is ceremony at Tanah Lot Temple. This pray symbol pemedek do pray to required so that their body and their soul sanctified before do pray hereinafter at Tanah Lot Temple.  After pemedek do pray at Beji Kaler then pemedek going to jeroan Tanah Lot Temple.

"Ngebejian" Ceremony at Tanah Lot Temple PDF Print E-mail

Active ImageTanah Lot Temple anniversary remain one day again that tomorrow, on Wednesday, September 3, 2008. Nowadays, on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 there is activity at Tanah Lot Temple that is Ngebejian Ida Bethara .  Ngebejian Ida Bethara is cleaning all of equipment that will used for ceremony to Beji  or source of holy water  that exist at Tanah Lot Temple. The equipment are lelontek or banner, pratima-pratima or symbol of the Gods, and any other equipment, brought to Beji to be cleaned before used for temple anniversary tomorrow. Ngebejian Ida Bethara perform at 3 PM and led by Mangku Subagi as the priest of Tanah Lot Temple.

 

Active ImageFirst all of equipment brought to beji  with pageant. At beji all pratima one by one ceremonied like Natab Banten Pabyakaonan, Banten Prascita, and Jerimpen where it contents are Kekumur, Don dadap, Kapas minyak kukus arum, Lis, Penyeneng, and Teterag, and last is ngaturang bakti or pray to the God that powering Beji Segara Kidul Tanah Lot and then required tirtha or holy water so that all pratima becoming holy and ready to used when temple anniversary taking place. After done, then all equipment bringing back to it place and ready to use for ceremony tomorrow. This activity draw visitor’s attention so that many visitor take the picture when the moment taking place.

Today, staff from operational management of Tanah Lot Object, all committee of tourism awareness group "Surya Chandra Tanah Lot", and merchant group ngaturang ngayah (workforce) at Tanah Lot Temple. Because, on next Wednesday there is ceremonial event on the temple. In the morning on 7 AM, all staff and commitee already start the workforce or ngayah. The word ‘ngayah’ is hard to define, it is derived from the word ‘ayah’ means ‘voluntary work,’ and the word ‘ngayah’ itself can be defined as ‘working voluntarily.’ Though the ‘ngayah’ activity is voluntarily based activity but constant failure to join this activity will result the wrath of God and community. The wrath of God is believed to be the source of misfortune but the worst and most feared misfortune for the Balinese comes from the wrath of community. The constant failure to join ‘ngayah’ activities during a long period of time is considered as a sign of inconformity and disloyalty to the society, for Balinese the golden rule is ‘if we share the good time we must also share the bad.’

Active ImageMany  activity like collecting wewalungan and making penjor are part of Tanah Lot ceremony on August 3rd, 2008 until August 6th, 2008 on Buda Cemeng Langkir . Wewalungan is all kind of equipment  which will used for ceremony like duck, chicken, goose, bebantenan and any other. After collected, all of that wewalungan must sacrifises first before used for "banten caru" for ceremony. Caru is devoting to the demon or bhuta kala, usually the form are with five chicken with a different color. The function of this offerings is so that the demon not disturb activities during the ceremony until finish. Besides collecting wewalungan activity, there is another activity that is making "penjor".

Ceremony at Pakendungan Temple PDF Print E-mail

Active ImageCeremony on Pakendungan Temple exact with Kuningan Day on August 30, 2008. On that day is the top of ceremony or puncak pujawali. Ceremonies procession like mepepada ceremony, mekarya upakara, and any other have been doing before the top ceremony. Temple anniversary right now is representing continuation of "karya agung" that performed last year also called "odalan jelih". All of hindus people from entire Tabanan regency specially and from entire Bali came to Pakendungan Temple to do pray. Because Pakendungan Temple is public temple and representing Sad Kahyangan temple. Hindus people usually brought some devoting that devote to the God of Pakendungan Temple.

The devoting like, gebogan that is devoting which consist of formation of some fruit, and some other just brought canang gede. While, medium to pray are flower, kwangen, dupa or frankincense, holy water, and bijaPujawali perform start from 5 AM until evening.  Pujawali divide into some time , there are :

- 5 AM until 1 PM, leading by the priest of Pakendungan Temple helped by the priest from Dalem Temple, Satrya Dalem Temple, Dewa Ayu Rangda Temple, Panti Temple, and Taman Dukuh Sakti Temple.

12 PM until 7 PM, leading by the priest from Batu Bolong Temple, Pucak Kedaton Temple, Batan Saba Temple, and Kerta Sari Temple.  

 

- 4 PM until 11 PM, leading by the priest from Timan Agung Temple, Batur Agung Ancak Temple, Batur Agung Batan Ancak Temple, and Bangbang Temple.
