Ramayana Performance at Tanah Lot PDF Print E-mail

Active ImageOne of  traditional art performance, kecak dance performance, show off at Tanah Lot Tourism Object, exactly at Surya Mandala Cultural Park.  One of theme of this Ramayana performance is Hanoman Obong (the burning of Hanuman), a popular theme for shadow puppet and Sendratari (opera) performance in Java. This performance usually perform on Saturday at 7 PM on an open stage with blue ocean and monument background. With Rp.50.000, visitor can watch this art performance while enjoying dinner.

Since Ramayana is a long epic, the story of Hanoman Obong usually begins with the exile of Rama, Sita (His wife) and Lakhsmana (His brother). The King of Alengka, Rahvana fell in love with Sita and kidnapped and brought her to Alengka with the help of a demon, named Marica. In his search for Sita Rama enlisted the help of the vanaras (monkeys). A group of vanaras sent on a search mission reached the southern seashore. Upon encountering the vast ocean, every vanara began to plead his inability to jump across the water. Hanuman too was saddened at the possible failure of his mission, until the other vanaras began to extoll his virtues. Hanuman then recollected his own prowess, enlarged his body and jumped across the ocean. Hanuman then entered Lanka and found Sita. Hanuman’s conveying the message of Rama to Sita.

Many food stall or warung sell various food and beverages a la Balinese such as babi guling (suckling pig), klepon, rujak, and tipat cantok. Babi Guling (Suckling Pig), may be the most famous Balinese cuisine. Babi Guling is a whole baby pig prepared over an open, corn husk fire. A long stick is inserted through the pig’s body from one end to the other after it is flavored, inside and out, with chopped spices that include shallots, garlic, ginger, turmeric, galangal, pepper coriander, candlenuts, chilies, lemon grass and lots of whole cassava leaves. The cassava leaves spread the spices evenly while the pig is being slowly grilled.

 

Rujak is mixture of many kinds of a refreshing sweet and sour salad containing unripe fruit such as Mangosteens, pineapple, kedongdong, papaya, etc combined with hot spicy sauce and mixed with sugar, chill and salt. Same with plecing, the sellers will ask the customers whether they want to add kuah pindang in their rujak or not.
