On Umanis Galungan day, Thursday, January 24th, 2008, many visitor enjoying their holiday at Tanah Lot Tourism Object. Most of them are domestic visitor from local Bali and some are foreigner. Most visitor that came to Tanah Lot, have been visiting Tanah Lot before. But some of them said, this is their first time visit Tanah Lot. Besides to seeing unique temple and beautiful sunset, they also want to shoping at Tanah Lot Art Market. Seen from amount of visitor, visit rank for this moment are increase compared with day before. Because of the holiday, most people usually spent their time with their family while their have vacation. Amount of visitor to Tanah Lot increase drastically from year before that is visitor from visitor. Because of the situation, parking area fullfilled with vehicle. Until parking staff then transferred parking to empty farm which exist close to Enjung Galuh area. |

Tirthayatra to Tanah Lot Temple |

Yesterday, January 23th, 2008 which exact with Galungan Day, at Tanah Lot Temple there are "tirthayatra" by hinduism people from Songan village, Kintamani Bangli, Bali leading by Mangku Subagi as the priest of Tanah Lot Temple. They plan to spending the night (mekemit) at Tanah Lot Temple and will be back to their village the day after. Tanah Lot Temple usually as main temple for Hinduism people to pray every time. Because function of Tanah Lot Temple as one of Dang Kahyangan Temple in Bali. And according to belief, that Tanah Lot Temple having many mysterious thing that not been known yet. Tirthayatra is one of the sacred duties of the Hindus. The Balinese make this journey to innumerable spots in Bali or even, if possible, beyond Bali. Almost no hindrance such as crossing a spreading sea or climbing a mountain can impede their intention from doing this spiritual journey. Their journey is self-organized under their clan family or customary village, except for destinations located beyond Bali like Lumajang (East Java) and Mount Salak (West Java) which are usually organized by local travel agents. |

Umanis Galungan takes place the day after Galungan Day, at the Thursday of Dungulan, the 11th week of the Pawukon calendar. The purpose of this day is to cleanse the bhuana alit (= the micro cosmos, the individual human being) in a physical and spiritual sense. After the ceremony, people perform the so called nyurud (= the taking back the offerings and sharing them with the family members) as a symbol of obtaining blessings from Bhatara Hyang Guru. |

Galungan Day is the climax of the Galungan celebrations. Throughout the day the local temples are crowded with people coming and going, bringing the offerings that have been prepared since Penyekeban. The offerings are presented with mass prayers to Sang Hyang Widi (God), to His manifestations (dewa/dewi, bhatara/bhatari) and to the spirits of one's ancestors (pitara/pitari). The ceremonies that are privately performed at the house compounds may vary from place to place and will depend among others on the resources and capabilities of the family concerned.With the presenting of the offerings one expresses gratitude for the divine provision of the products of the earth, and one prays for the well-being of body and soul, for prosperity, and for protection. |
