Nature has endowed Bali with ideal conditions for the development of agriculture. The divine volcanoes, still frequently active, provide the soils with great fertility. Copious rainfall and numerous mountain springs supply many areas of the island with ample water year-round. And a long dry season, brought on by the southeasterly monsoon, brings plentiful sunshine for many months of the year. Bali is, as a result, one of the most productive traditional agricultural areas on earth, which has in turn made possible the development of a highly intricate civilization on the island since very early times. Irrigation cooperatives (subak) historical evidence indicates that since the 11th century, all peasants whose fields were fed by the same water course have belonged to a single subak or irrigation cooperative.

Ngambe Ceremony at Tanah Lot PDF Print E-mail

Yesterday, January 17th, 2008, which is "Sugian Jawa" day, perform "Ngambe ceremony" for new building that located at north side of public relation building. Purpose of ngambe ceremony is to required safety to the God so that the new building can durable and can function as according to the one which expected. Ngambe ceremony equivalent with "Melaspas Ceremony" but the elements (bebantenan/upakara) that used more smaller than melaspas ceremony. There are the elements that used for ngambe ceremony : jrimpen apajeg, prasita byakaonan, pengulapan, caru siap brumbun, peras daksina, and pakarya tirtha or holy water.

Ngambe ceremony at Tanah Lot attended by all of priest (pemangku) from Tanah Lot Temple and leading by Mangku Alit and Mangku Arya, which helped by penyrati or mangku istri  (priestess) from Tanah Lot Temple.

Sugian Bali is the third of three Sugian ceremonies that are performed to cleanse the bhuana agung (the environment of the individual human being, or macro-cosmos) and the bhuana alit (the micro-cosmos or the inner world of the individual human being) of negativity; at the same time they are meant to create awareness of one's sacred inner power.

The three Sugian ceremonies are (sequential): Sugian Pengenten, Sugian Jawa, Sugian Bali.In Sanskrit the word bali means 'inner power', which refers to the bhuana alit or micro-cosmos, the environment of the individual human being (the counterpart of the environment of the individual human being, the macro-cosmos or bhuana agung).

Cempaka flower is indigenous to certain areas of South East Asia. It is a very fragrant flower, and widely used in Bali in many purpose. An offering in the form of canang will never completed if it doesn’t have any fragrant, therefore Balinese use to add this flower. Another kind of this flower, which is bigger and yellow color is the favorite one. Cempaka also as a hair decoration for Balinese dancer or when praying at the temple.
