Religious Day : Budha Kliwon Ugu in Tanah Lot PDF Print E-mail

This day is Buda Kliwon Ugu, that is special day for hindus people. Today, people in Beraban village Tanah Lot doing some religious activity. Budha Kliwon is a reocccuring auspicious day to pray for protection and a long and healthy life. At this day, which is also known as the Sang Hyang Ayu or Sang Hyang Nirmala Jati cleansing day, the Balinese Hindus pray for protection of the household and the entire world including all creatures that inhabit it. The ceremony is performed at the kumulan shrine of the family temple and the plankiran (wall temple) of the bedroom.  The following sesajen are offered,  a canang reresik wangi-wangian, a canang yasa, kernbang pepayasan, puspa harum, and asap dupa astanggi.

 

Buda Kliwon is one of Balinese sacred day regarding  “Panca Wara” system ( which is coming every 5 day), where all “Buthakala” or ghosts or the bad things spread out on street. Balinese people must give them “sesaji” (dish of food offered), in order all Buthakala or ghosts do not disturb humans being.  The dish of food offered called “Segehan”. It’s from banana leave contain with flower, rice in five color (white, yellow, black, red and various), salt, ginger and union. Today is  Buda Kliwon day and all Hindu’s people also in Tanah Lot area do prey to God through “Canang Sari” as media and gave “Segehan” for the Buthakala or ghosts for harmony of life.  

After finishing this ceremony one prays for protection of the household and the world with all its creatures in order to obtain an long and healthy life. After the prayers a final ceremony called metirtha gocara is performed with canang offerings and wangi-wangian, sweet smelling incense and flowers at the sangga of the family temple and the plankiran (wall temple) of the bedroom.Budha Kliwon occurs every 35 days when the day 'Budha' (Wednesday) of the 7-day week (Saptawara) coincidences with the day 'Wage' of the 5-day week (Pancaware) of the Balinese pawukon calendar system.
